zay's grid ("the App", "we", "us") is a music-social app that connects people through shared listening and proximity. This document explains what data we collect, how we use it, your rights, and our monetization model.

🎵 Audio Upload Policy: zay's grid allows users to upload personal audio snippets for their profiles. Users are solely responsible for ensuring they own or have rights to any audio they upload. Do not upload copyrighted music, remixes, or covers unless you own the copyright or have a license. Uploads of copyrighted material without permission will be removed via DMCA takedown.

Privacy Policy

1. Data We Collect

• Account data: Email address, username, date of birth (used only for age verification).
• Music data: Your currently playing track, top artists, top genres, and recent listening history. Synced via Spotify or Apple Music OAuth with your explicit permission.
• Precise location: GPS coordinates, collected only while the app is open and you have Signal turned ON. We never track your location in the background.
• User-generated content: Messages you send via Signal chat, Frequency Wall graffiti tags, and profile bio/mood text.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Location is used to calculate proximity to nearby listeners and geo-anchor Frequency Wall posts. It is never sold, shared with third-party advertisers, or stored beyond what is needed for live proximity matching.
• Music data is used to compute vibe scores, display your profile, and power the monthly listening summary. It is stored in Firebase Firestore under your user UID.
• We do not use your data for advertising profiles or sell it to any third party.

3. Data Storage & Security

• All data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore + Firebase Auth), which encrypts data at rest and in transit using TLS/AES-256.
• Spotify tokens are stored in your browser's localStorage for persistence across reloads, with a session copy used as a fallback. Apple Music developer tokens are stored locally in your browser too. They are never written to our servers.

4. Location Minimization

We only request precise location while the app is actively open and you have the Signal feature enabled. The GPS indicator (GPS_TRACKING_ACTIVE) is displayed in the app header whenever your device is sharing location with us. Turning Signal OFF stops all location collection immediately.

5. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings tab inside the app. Selecting "delete my account & data" marks your account for deletion. All personal data is wiped from our servers within 24 hours.

You can also email privacy@thegrid.app to request manual deletion.

6. Children's Privacy

zay's grid is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 17. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us immediately at privacy@thegrid.app and we will remove the account.

Terms of Service (EULA)

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 17 years old to use zay's grid. By registering, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

3. User Conduct

zay's grid has zero tolerance for:

• Abusive content, hate speech, harassment, threats, or discrimination based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic.
• Sexual or explicit content of any kind.
• Attempts to contact or solicit minors.
• Sharing personal contact information (phone numbers, social media handles) or attempting to move conversations off-platform.
• Spam, bot accounts, or automated content.

Violators will be banned instantly and without notice.

4. User-Generated Content (including Audio Uploads)

You are solely responsible for content you post (profile bio, Frequency Wall tags, chat messages, and audio snippets). By uploading audio or other content, you:

• Warrant that you own the audio or have obtained all necessary rights and licenses to use, reproduce, and distribute that content within zay's grid.
• Grant zay's grid a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display that content within the App for use by you and other users viewing your profile.
• Retain all rights to your audio and content. zay's grid does not claim ownership or use your content for commercial purposes outside the App.

If you upload copyrighted material without permission, you accept full legal responsibility. zay's grid is not liable for copyright infringement claims arising from user-uploaded content.

5. Copyright & DMCA Takedown

If your copyrighted work has been uploaded without permission:

• Email a DMCA takedown notice to dmca@thegrid.app with:
  • Your name and contact information
  • Description of the copyrighted work
  • Location of the infringing content (profile username or URL)
  • Proof of copyright ownership
• We will remove the content within 48 hours and notify the uploader.
• Users who receive DMCA notices will have one appeal opportunity to demonstrate legal rights to the content.

6. Reporting & Moderation

Every piece of user-generated content has a Report button. Reports are reviewed by our team within 24 hours. Accounts with 2 or more reports from different users are automatically suspended pending review.

7. Double Opt-In Messaging

Direct messages (Signal chat) require both users to have established a connection. You cannot send unsolicited messages to strangers.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless zay's grid, its developers, and service providers from any claims, damages, or legal costs arising from:

• Your violation of these Terms or applicable laws
• Your user-generated content or audio uploads
• Your use of the App in an unlawful manner

9. Limitation of Liability

zay's grid is provided "as is." We are not liable for user-generated content, third-party service outages (Spotify, Apple Music, Firebase), copyright claims from user uploads, or indirect damages arising from use of the App.

10. Monetization & Revenue

zay's grid revenue comes solely from:

• App store distribution and in-app purchases (if available)
• Premium features or memberships (if offered)

We do not monetize, sell, or license user-uploaded audio, messages, or profile data to third parties. You retain full rights and economic benefit from any content you create.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
